Value Hospitality Group to manage Parkcity Hotel Sunday, April 05, 2009
BINTULU: Hotel management specialist, Value Hospitality Group has secured an extension of its contract to manage the four-star Parkcity Everly Hotel Bintulu for a period of 15 years. The renewal follows Value Hospitality’s successful management of the hotel-owned by Kemena Resort- a subsidiary of Samling Group. The initial contract that spanned 10 years, ended in October last year. “The renewal of our contract with Parkcity Everly Hotel Bintulu is testament that our strategies have produced the desired results for our client. We are pleased with the decision to renew our contract and look forward to a long-lasting and mutually rewarding relationship with clients,” said Value Hospitality Group General Manager Dennis Tan.
Tan described the decision to award the contract to Value Hospitality Group again was based on its proven track record in the industry and in particular, the Group’s success in managing Parkcity Everly Hotel Bintulu and turning around Parkcity Everly Hotel Miri.
Tan cited the capability of the Group to managing the hotel with a staff ratio of 0.60 staff per room basis were one of the major contributing factors to achieve high gross operating profits over the years. “We have also implemented cost saving systems while increasing sales through specific marketing strategies,” added Tan.
Parkcity Everly Hotel Bintulu was first opened in June 1998 of which Value Hospitality was also involved in the design of the four star hotel. It is well positioned to meet the needs of both business and leisure travelers due to its ideal location and situation within close proximity to the hub of business activities, financial institutions and entertainment outlets in the booming industrial town.
Tan pointed out under the Group’s management, Parkcity Everly Hotel Bintulu was awarded Tourism Malaysia Award in 2004 for Excellence in Hotel Services (Four-Star City Hotel Category). The award recognises hotels which offer quality and excellent services to their guests and the judging criteria includes all areas of hotel operations such as overall efficiency, courtesy, ambience, value-for-money, reservations, reception and guest relations, telephone operations, bell services, laundry services, housekeeping, security, food and beverages, interior decorations, staff uniforms, cleanliness and maintenance. The hotel consists of 225 rooms, conference and banquet hall facilities to accommodate 450 people, a dedicated business centre, gym, swimming pool, laundry and dry cleaning services, 24-hour room service, baby sitting services, Internet access and a children’s playground.
On the other note, Tan acknowledged the global economic downturn did have some impact on Malaysia tourism industry as number of tourists from overseas would decrease by certain percentage. “However, the prospects for local tourism industry are promising despite the current economic slowdown as more Malaysians opt to travel to local destinations instead of abroad for holidays,” said Tan.
“In addition, our Malaysian government has been instrumental in promoting the various tourist attractions in Malaysia to both Malaysians and foreigners and we expect a steady influx of guests at our hotels. We are targeting to achieve an average occupancy rate of 75 percent for our hotels in 2009,” continued Tan. Tan stressed the Group’s aim was moving forward to ensure the hotel guests continue to derive a high level of satisfaction from their stay at the hotels managed by the Group. “We will continue to place emphasis on providing value-for-money service to attract new guests and encourage repeat business, provide customized services that reflect the needs of guests in each locality and ensure that our staff are well-trained to meet this needs,” said Tan.
The Value Hospitality Group, a privately owned company formed in 1990, currently manages seven hotels and resorts around Malaysia, namely, four-star Everly and Beverly Hotel (Parkcity Everly Hotel Miri, Parkcity Everly Hotel Bintulu, Everly Resort Malacca and Beverly Hotel Kota Kinabalu in Sabah), the three-star Prescott Hotels (Prescott Hotel Klang, Prescott Metro Inn Kajang and Prescott Inn Medan Tuanku, Kuala Lumpur). |

Sandakan on the trail Sunday, July 20, 2008
Borneo Post
Sandakan, Sabah's second largest town, was once known as “Little Hong Kong” due to thriving businesses and of course, the timber boom. Over its hundred year history, Sandakan has developed from a gunrunning village to become the timber centre of Sabah during the 60's and 70's. From a settlement dotted with stilt homes, it now has become a magnificent skyline. From a timber reliant city, it diversified into agricultural activities in the 80's and 90's. Now it has ventured into the tourism industry, concentrating on eco-tourism and wildlife conservation. It is now the Nature City of Sabah. It remains today the first town in Sabah in more ways than one.
Sandakan has so much to offer. The Orang Utan Sanctuary is an iconic destination that every Malaysian and visiting foreigner should visit at least once in their life time. The Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary at Labuk Bay which is located 90 minutes from Sandakan town (and not on the Kinabatangan as I had reported last week) is a popular spot to go monkey watching.
At Labuk Bay, you get to feed Silver Langur long beans and spot a Hornbill thus making your Sandakan getaway a truly memorable holiday. For those of you eager to watch turtles laying their eggs, head for Turtle Island Park. The Park is famous for its green and hawksbill turtles, which lay their eggs on the beaches of the islands. There is so much to see around Sandakan that you will need to spend a couple of days in town.
The brand new Sandakan Harbour Square is the new part of Sandakan built of reclaimed land facing the glorious Sulu Sea. Located at the heart of the business and entertainment quarters of Sandakan town, it has given Sandakan a fresh modern day appeal. The Harbour Square consists of a beautiful landmark hotel appropriately named @ease hotel.
@ease hotel has a fresh modern day outlook consisting of 138 elegant rooms and suites. Comfortable rooms amidst a relaxing environment make it perfect for both busy business travellers and tourists alike. The rooms are elegantly furnished with modern day conveniences namely free Wifi internet connection in all guest rooms as well as public areas, an excellent selection of Astro programmes, wall mounted flat screen TVs and latest designer bathrooms. If you need to conduct meetings or seminars, the hotel has well appointed meeting halls. @ease Hotel is having a special promotion of RM88.00 net per room with breakfast for two. This is subject to availability, so hurry and book your stay today by calling 089-240888.
As for food and entertainment, you are spoilt for choice. There are so many places to dine at Sandakan Harbour Square. Try delicious Tom Yam at Harbour Bistro Café or exquisite dim sums and freshest seafood at New Imperial Bayview Restaurant above the sparkling clean central market. Sandakan is indeed an iconic town and one of Sabah’s best kept secrets. In the next series of On the Sandakan Trail, I will bring you more attractions around Sandakan. |

A different kind of pageant Saturday, July 12, 2008
The Star Publication
RENEE Tiun has always perceived beauty pageants as superficial; that is before she joined Miss Malaysia Earth 2008. "Joining this pageant has proved me wrong,” said the 22-year-old. Being the third largest pageant in the world, it is the only one that campaigns for the preservation of the environment and the protection of Mother Earth. Tiun, a media student at Multimedia University Malacca, was one of the 16 finalists present at the New Balance flagship store at The Gardens, Midvalley recently. New Balance is the official Sportswear sponsor for Miss Malaysia Earth 2008 and the finalists were there to pick up shoes to be used in the sportswear segment of the pageant. The finalists each went away with a pair of New Balance shoes of their choice. In its 8th year, this year's pageant is organised by MY Production Enterprise and supported by Natural Resources and Environment Ministry, Tourism Malaysia, Malacca Government and Tourism Promotion Division Malacca. Throughout the week leading up to the pageant finals today at the Everly Resort Hotel Malacca, the finalists got involved in a stream of activities to promote awareness of environmental issues. These young ladies, however, are not without their own ambitious plans to change the world. Chandrika believes the key step towards a better world is to instil awareness in the younger generation to preserve the environment. "If given the chance, I would go around to schools and try to inspire the students to care for the environment." "Everyone can play a part, and we can contribute in little ways in saving the environment. Whatever a human mind can dream, conceive, and believe, it can definitely achieve," says the 22-year-old, who is representing Selangor. This year's winner will be representing Malaysia at the Miss Earth 2008 world finals in Manila, Philippines in November. Visit www.missearth.tv for details. |

Helping the earth by washing less linen Friday, June 13, 2008
The Star Publication
MALACCA: Value Hospitality Group of Hotels will support World Earth Day with money saved from washing less linen and towels.
Group general manager Dennis Tan said that all nine hotels in the group would place signs in rooms informing guests that RM1 in water usage would be saved for each guest who reused his or her linen and towels.
He said the hotel would donate the savings to a fund supporting community service and environmental programmes led by the Government and non-governmental organisations.
“We have been considering the programme over the past two years.
“In January, we initiated the programme at ParkCity Everly Hotel in Bintulu,” he said. Since then, there had been a positive response and the savings were between RM5,000 and RM10,000 a month, he said.
Earlier, state Tourism, Arts, Culture and Heritage Committee chairman Datuk Seet Har Cheow officially launched the Save The Earth Campaign and Miss Malaysia Earth Pageant by planting a tree at Everly Resort.
In his speech, Seet said that environment programmes like the pageant helped promote awareness on working towards a cleaner environment.
He said the pageant helped boost the state’s tourism sector that recorded 1.9 million tourists in first four months of this year.
A total of 15 finalists will vie for the Miss Malaysia Earth crown at the finals here on July 12. |

Keep the towel, raise some money Friday, June 06, 2008
News Straits Times
MALACCA: Use the same hotel towel for more than one day and you would be taking the first step towards conserving water and saving the environment. As part of a "Save The Earth Campaign", and in conjunction with World Environment Day yesterday, the Value Hospitality Group of Hotels announced an "exchange programme" initiative, where they will contribute RM1 for all linen and towels that are used for more than a day by guests.
Value Hospitality Group general manager Denis Tan said between RM5,000 and RM10,000 from the "exchange programme" could be collected from their chain of hotels every month.
The money would then be channelled into the group's "Save The Earth Fund", to support community service programmes led by non-governmental organisations and the government.
The group manages nine hotels, namely the Everly and Beverly Hotels (in Miri, Bintulu, Malacca and Kota Kinabalu), Prescott Hotels (Klang, Kajang, Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu) and a boutique hotel in Sandakan.
Tan said the initiative was in tandem with the World Environment Day 2008 slogan, "Kick the Habit: Towards a Low Carbon Economy".
"Hotels usually put signs in the rooms asking guests to save linen. However, many may feel that the hotel wants to save money. We want to show that we are sincere in our efforts to save the environment," he said at the Everly Resort Hotel in Klebang.
"We want this to be a permanent feature of the group's corporate social responsibility programme."
As part of World Environment Day, the hotel also conducted a beach clean-up and tree-planting ceremony.
Meanwhile, Miss Malaysia Earth 2008 was also launched at the hotel yesterday and was attended by reigning Miss Malaysia Earth 2007 Dorcas Cheok, 21, and runners-up Abby Woo, 20, and Kate Lee.
The pageant's finalists will be in the state for 10 days until the finals, to be held at Everly Resort Hotel here on July 12.
The winner will represent Malaysia at the world finals in Manila in October. |
